JB & Calee's visit, pt. IV

Our next destination was Battle, a small town built around the site of the Battle of Hastings.

The town center is a huge monastery, which was founded in 1095 to commemorate the battle & is open for touring.

Enter through the gift shop?

There's a school in operation on part of the Abbey grounds.

Otherwise it's mostly a very well-preserved ruin.

We had really helpful audio guides, which chronicled the story of the battle & gave details about William, Harold, & their motivations for fighting.

That field in the background is where the battle took place.

Enough history.  Time for a pint.

From Battle we drove to Rye, another small town in East Sussex.

We didn't have too much time there, so we had no particular agenda in Rye & ended up just strolling around.

A bit of wandering's followed happily by a pint.  Or two.

So concludes another day of JB & Calee in England.  In the next post, we return to Oxford & drink more beer!
